James H. Jenkins Poem, 29 March 1863
"To Miss [obscured]"
On receiving a geranium leaf.

Accept fair maiden my warmest regards,
For this thy gentle donation,
Im sorry I cannot thy kindnest reward,
By some more handsome oblation.

Though thy form I never have seen,
This gift from thine own fairy hand,
Hath caused me to hold thee in highest esteem,
And hail thee fairest in all the land.

And though Im bound in my countrys cause,
Theres a time when I again shall be free,
I then can repair with my countrys applause,
To visit my friends in east Tennessee.
