William H. Talley to Joseph R. Talley, 27 September 1864
Wilmington Del Sep 27th 1864
Dear Uncle
It is with feelings of deep sorrow that I have to inform you of the death of my beloved Brother. you were aware of his illness, we did not expect him to go so soon, he died on Saturday morning about 3 o'clk. he was apparently as well as usul when Bayard left for market, and about 12—O'clk he got suddenly worse but seemed to rally again and told his sisters that they had better lay down and try to sleep, as he said he was going to try to go to sleep. he turned over and said he felt so good, in a few minutes he says I am smothering and asked to be fanned, and while they were fanning him he seemed to go to sleep. they spoke to him, he answered them not, they spoke again, but life had fled. he was burried on monday at Mt Lebanon. I am sorry that you left so soon, and that I did not get to see you at last. write to me soon and let me know how the boys are and if they have got home. we are all well and I hope that you have arrived safe at home. my best regards to all my friends—my best wishes for your health and happiness—and belive me
Your Nephew
