Mr & Mrs Thompson
Kind friends,
I will now try and fulfill my promise to write to you. I felt so bad yesterday after our arrival that I postponed writing until this morning.
We arrived home at noon yesterday some what the worse for wear & tear of the long trip. Uncle stood the trip very well, much better than I expected, for it is a long and tiresome one. he slept but little. I got him severel cups of coffee on the road, which braced him up and gave him strength / I was in much worse shape than he as I took fresh cold and was constantly coughing day & night. I tell you I missed pneumonia by a narrow margin, and I would not go through the same experiance again for any amount of money. but I am at home, under the old Lady's care, and I think I will soon be all right again.
Yesterday was a beautiful day, and after dinner uncle was out in the yard looking at the trees &c. bare headed in his shirt sleves & without over shoes. so you see the conditions are greatly changed for his benefit and I know he will soon feel like a new man. he so far is well pleased with what he has seen and he thinks he will like it very well. I never had any doubt on that score.
