Lewis H. Cofren
Lewis H. Cofren was born on July 1, 1847, in New Sharon, Maine, to Thomas and Ruth Cofren. His father was a farmer who owned $1,200 of real estate and $590 of personal property by 1860. He grew up and attended school in New Sharon.

He enlisted in the Union army on October 25, 1864, and he mustered in as a private in the 7th Maine Unassigned Infantry Company. He apparently lied about his age, claiming that he was 19 years old. He mustered out on July 6, 1865.

He returned to Maine after the war, and he attended the Maine Wesleyan Seminary. He died in Mount Vernon, Maine, on August 4, 1873.
