a few
lines this afternoon to let you know about me a little. We started from Augusta yesterday morning at 6 o'clock and got there about 8 o'clock I am well and like well and have enough of everything

We dont know how long we shall stop here. some say we shall go this week. we shall sail for Savannah when we do go I suppose

This Island is about 8 miles from the city of Boston it is a very good place here we have good barracks to live in good bunks to sleep in the Vienna boys are all well and all like well I guess

We saw a great many large places as we came along yesterday they / looked large to us greenhorns we stoped at quite a number of the large places between here and Augusta but did not get out of the cars only to change cars and that was only once (at Portland) We had to have a big guard to guard us. they were Boston home guards or something I dont know hardly what they were. all I know about it is that they came from Boston Some of the boys thought it did not look very well to see volunteers guarded I cannot think of any more to write this time. I dont think you can read this I will write more and better next time write soon and direct to
