William A. P. Dillingham to (?) Dowst, 4 June 1866
Waterville, June 4th 1866.

Capt. Dowst.
            My dear Sir:—
You will pardon me for addressing you on a personal matter, inasmuch as we are comparatively strangers to each other.

I desire to say to you that my friends will present my name at the county convention for the Senatorship, which belongs to the northern section of the county.

The object of this letter is not to secure pledges; but to say that if you can conveniently do any thing for our cause in Vienna, it will be fully appreciated.

Will you be at Bangor Con.? If so I hope to have the pleasure of meeting you and helping to place Gen. Chamberlain in nomination for Gov. of Maine.

Hoping to hear from you soon,
I am your's very truly,
W. A. P. Dillingham
