William R. Smith
William R. Smith enlisted in the Confederate army on April 25, 1861, and he mustered in as a sergeant in Company H of the 4th Virginia Cavalry. He eventually earned a promotion to 2nd lieutenant. During the winter of 1863-64, he was promoted to captain in the 43rd Virginia Cavalry. He died during the war.
