Charles H. Davis to Darius H. Ingraham, 16 April 1866
Washington, April 16th 1866.
Dear Sir:
The subject of your letter of the 11th inst. commands my warmest concurrence. It is most touching to observe these displays of an increasing watchfulness over the welfare of those who have been deprived of their natural guardians by the war of the rebellion, and I reflect upon the influence which these manifestations of the sentiments of gratitude to our dead soldiers, and of duty to their families, is to exercise upon the future character / of the nation, with pride and pleasure.
I thank you, cordially, for offering me this occasion of expressing my sympathy with your undertaking, and I have the honor to be, dear Sir, with the highest respect, and regard, Your Obt. Serv't.
C. H. Davis
