Williamsport Hospital
December the 13th /62
Dear Neice
I take this oppertunity of pening a few lines to you to inform you of my whereabouts, I am at the hospital at Williamsport
Anna I have had the Typhoid fever I was taken bad the first of the month and remaind at my camp untill the fourth without eney attendence I was put in a ambulance and brought here. I have had a rough time of it, they all being strangers to me here, but now my health is recruiting fast and I am able to set up some. when I first came here my regiment was within a half mile of this and my comrades came / to see me every day, but I was soon deprived of this for on the 10th they received marching orders and marched that morning at 6 O'clock. they went down the river some 20 mile to a place caled Shepherdstown I expect they will soon join Burnsides army. if nothing happens me more than I know of at present I expect to be able to join my regiment in the course of a few weeks. I want to be with them for there is meny of my comrades that is kind as brothers to me they have not only waited on me when sick but have spent there money to get things for me when I had none and they were so loath to leave me behind the hard fight has comenced / our troops are led by Burnside if he is defeated we may expect to serve our three years out if not I expect this aufull war will be over by the first of May. they sent me a box of good things from home some time ago and it had a pair of boots & gloves in it and 4 chickens one duck 4 or 5 lbs sausage two pans of rusk and a flask of honey bread and butter 1½ lb tobaco apples &c, but I was sick when it came and was not able to eat eney of them. it cost one dollar and thirty five cents freight on the box. I received a letter from George the 9th he was right well and tells me that he expects to join his regiment in a few days / and tells not to write untill I heare from him again he dont know that I have been sick Anna please excuse this it is the best that I can do I am so weake give my love to them all no more at presant I remain your affectionate
