Jonathan Garton
Jonathan Garton was born around 1797 in New Jersey to Ephraim Garton and Lydia Stratton. He served in the War of 1812, enlisting on September 26, 1814, and mustering out on January 4, 1815. He married Elizabeth Souder on April 16, 1816, and they had at least seven children: Eliza, born around 1816; Lydia, born around 1820; Lawrence, born around 1822; Lewis, born around 1824; Oliver Perry, born around 1827; Andrew Jackson, born around 1832; and Henry, born around 1835.They moved to Lancaster, Indiana, in the late 1840s, and Garton worked as a farmer there. By 1850, he owned $3,000 of real estate. A decade later, he owned $3,500 of real estate and $1,000 of personal property. He died in Wells County, Indiana, on December 5, 1879.
