Dear relatieves and friend mi surprise is not to be wondered at when i was told that the express had had brought a box for us but mi mind soon anchord on the fact that it was a friendly visetor especially to the stomach that likes good things and i would say that soldiers halve generally stomachs of that kind all though they dont get that kind of thing all the time when i partake of the well prepared edibles you send me i am not unmindful of the doners indeed friends when i am eating of your kind gift mi mind as is natural turns homewards i allmost think sometimes that i am a gain at home and i sure you that the way the articles are cooked there tast and and apperences all con / spire the more to remind me of home i all most fancy that i would know your victlus if i were to partake of them in fort pickens there is a certan impression of home cookery made up on mi tast wich times nor uncle sams rough food cannot rub off these few lines is all the return i can make but remember mi friends that such things inspire me with courage to go forth and do mi duty and as it is necessary on sich occasions to halve a well suplied stomach your gift along with the more coarce food of uncle sam will very well subserve this purpose i do not however appreciate it simply on this account a higher motive moves mi heart it is the association with wich it is clung that makes it dear to me hoping these few lines may reach you shortly
