Ephraim Kirby Chamberlain Evans
Ephraim Kirby Chamberlain Evans was born on June 7, 1838, in Pennsylvania to North and Mary Evans. His father was a farmer who owned $8,400 of real estate and $400 of personal property by 1860. The family lived in New Sewickley, Pennsylvania, until the 1850s, when they moved to Lawrence County, Pennsylvania.
 
He enlisted in the Union army on June 28, 1861, and he mustered in as a private in Battery B of the 1st Pennsylvania Light Artillery. According to his service records, he was 6 feet, 2 inches tall, with dark hair and blue eyes. The regiment took part in the Seven Days Battles, the Second Battle of Manassas, the Battle of Antietam, the Battle of Fredericksburg, the Battle of Chancellorsville, the Battle of Gettysburg, and the Overland Campaign. He mustered out on June 9, 1864.
 
He settled in New Castle, Pennsylvania, after leaving the army, and he married Eliza E. Fenton on November 12, 1865. They had at least four children: Lois, born around 1867; Alma, born around 1868; Howard, born around 1871; and Anna, born around 1878. He worked as a carpenter, and by 1870, he owned $500 of real estate and $300 of personal property.
 
He moved to Larimer County, Colorado, in the 1870s and then to Monrovia, California, in the early 1900s. He applied for a federal pension in December 1892 and eventually received one. He died in Los Angeles County, California, on November 1, 1924.
