Febuary the 6 1864
 
Dear Brother
I take the presant oppertunity of writing you a few lines to let you no that I am well at presant and hoping these few lines may find you all enjoying the same blesing well I must tell you that I recieved them things that you folks sent to me in Mart Pyle box I recieved them to day and was most mity glad of it for I was most darn hungry for we are all out of mony and we cant by eny good things to eat with out money in this country the things was all wright side up with care when we got them but I cant say so know for we eat one of the chickens for dinner / and I dont no wether it wright side up or not but I dont believe it is what say you do you think it is well Jack I hardly no what to write for times are very dry heare at presant the weather has been very fine heare for some time but looks like rane at presant we hant nothing to do but drill a litle once and a while and it makes the time seem long we was out on drill this afternoon and had a very good drill I got some photograph of some of our generals and tom thumb and his wife I am a going to send them home in this letter and I want you to take good care of them and keep them nice till I get home when you look at major general Reynolds then you look at at one of the best generals of the war / he ust to command the first army Corps the one we belong to but he was kild the first day of July 1862 at gettsburgh and since that major general newton has command of the first Corps he is a very good general he is liked very well as far as I no I think he is a good man when you see ha hiram Rhodes tell him that I recieved his letter on the 5 of this month and will write to him soon
 
Well Jackson I want you to write to me as soon as you get this letter and I want you to get me some postage stamps and send them to me for I need them very much and hant got eny money if I cold get all virginna for ten ten cents I cold not by it for it is more money than I halve got when you see Eaphraim I want you to tell him if he aint a going to write to me to let me / no and then I wont look for eny tell him that I halve written him two letters and never recieved an answer to none of them and if he dont write to me I wont write him eny more while I am in the service tell him that and then mebby he will write for I think he has a bout as much time as I halve dont forget the stamps father will give you the money. I will close by sending you all my well wishes nothing more at presant but remain your

[upside down] I wrote this letter yesterday but today I halve a little more to put in we got orders this morning to be ready to march at a moments notice there was three of the batteries went this morning we heard them fire but I cant tell wether we will haft to march or not but I hope not for it is raning know that is all at presant
