My Dear Brother
Still we are here in confinement & I dont know how long we are to remain here.
I wrote you last in Jan, & Hattie in March, hope they were received. I have recd nothing from home since last July Neither have any one of us recd anything since that time. the weather has been very cold ever since we came up here but we are all pretty well now. I have fatted up much, weighing 160 lbs now. Wentworth was left at Shreveport also Sam Hersey, poor J W D Parker died at Hemstead of dysentary. tomorrow 20 officers & / 370 men leave here exchanged by Gen Banks they were captured in September last & our claims are ignored altogether. it seems as if we were to be left here to die for all they care for us at home.
I hope you will look after my affairs at home, hopeing to get there sometime. also write to Hattie & say that I am well & in good spirits, under the hard circumstances that surround us.
Stir up Banks through the Journal. perhaps that will reach him. all send regards to you
love to all at home
Your Dear Brother
Alfred
