John Carr to Daughter, 2 April 1865
Limerick April 2d/65

My Dear Daughter
Charles handed me a letter this (Sunday) morning which he took from the Office late last evening, which is from you. we are very sorry to hear that you have a lame shoulder. we sincerely hope, that ere this, it is entirely well. We are all as well as usual, excepting colds, which we have all been more or less afflicted with, and which appears to be very prevalent in this village & vicinity. I hope, that by the blessings of God, that this may reach & find you, and all the household enjoying health, peace, & prosperity. I have not heard anything from any of the children since I wrote you last; you wish me to send / you one of your pictures by mail. Capt Horace H. Burbank gave us a call yesterday (& I saw him this evening) and informed us that he should make a visit to Saco, and Biddeford, some time the first of next week, and he would take any message, or package to you, that we wished to send, for he should be very happy to call and see you, therefore, I thought that a few days (about the picture) would not make much difference with you, and as it will go just as safe, & much cheaper, and for the money that you sent to pay postage with, I will send you something that will suit you better. last sabbath I attempted to get up on the hill to meeting, got a part of the way, and failed, on account of a weakning pain which seized me in my left leg, but to day—by starting an hour ahead— / I succeeded, and heard two excelent discourses delivered by the Rev. Mr Esty; a man that the Baptist people have employed to preach for them one year. I have a letter written to Hiram & Lillie, which I shall send by the same mail that will take this. I have nothing new in particular to communicate, and as it is about time to retire, I will close this hasty scrawl, by sending love & best respects to you, Mr Fogg & Lady, and to all enquiring friends—from your Ever Affectionate

N.B. I have just thought to say to you, that Sarah sent word for me if I was well enough to meet her in Saco with a carriage to take her up, of course she intends to come that way, probably you will have notice. / as she dont know the number of the box, you had better enquire for letters when you go to the Office

Yours H J. Carr
