My Dear Daughter
I will will make an attempt to write a few lines to you but I hardly know how I shall succeed; for my arm & shoulder have failed me so for the last four weeks, that I can hardly hold or guide my pen, so as to write a legible hand, even at the present moment. It pains me very bad indeed; last saturday, I bought one dollar and twenty three cents worth of medicine of H. L. Mitchell, and made a linament, which I have been useing night & morning since I made it, and think it has helped me a little. last saturday night, my shoulder & arm pained me so bad that I dont think I slept much over one hour during the night; your Mother is not very well, she was quite slim yesterday, but she is a little / better to day, her old complaint troubles her occasionly, especially if she gets takes a little cold; the rest are all well. Charles says that he shall leave for Canada West tomorrow morning. your Mother & I, as well as others, have tried our best to persuade him out of the notion of going, but all to no purpose. In my opinion, it is about the foolishest moove that he ever made. Mason came home on saturday & left again Monday morning. I suppose that he, Mason, has put some kind of a scheme into his head that never will be any benefit to him; If he had funds, to the amount of 8 or 10 thousand dollars, perhaps he could make something, but as it is, it will be all moonshine. I believe that I have received letters from Sabrina, Lillie W. and Lizzie since Charles was down, all pretty well. Hiram had gone out West & I dont know that he has got back yet, he was to be gone about 4 weeks, they intend to / come down here some time in June, they dont know exactly what time, but they will let us know; I will let you know when we know ourselves; Lizzie says, "I shall go to Limerick this summer if I possibly can; I shall try hard" dont fail to write & answer this by return, and accept the same, with the love & best respects of us all, from your

Affectionate father
