Isaac M. Yoakum to Martha Yoakum, 17 November 1862
Louden East Tennisee Nov 17th 1862

Dear Mother
I wrote a letter to Columbus a day or two ago but as I have the time I will write you a few lines I wrote Father a letter the other day and sent it by male. It is rather uncertain whether Nicholson will get off or not so I have fixed my money up and will send it by Lt Delk. I will send two hundred dollars. I collected twenty six dollars from Sparril Saunders and seven dollars and seventy five cents, but Nicholson brought a paper from Mr Allen showin that he had paid fifteen dollars to father and the note for the gun was credited for all but $7.75cts so I will pay him back the fifteen dollars and that will make eighteen dollars and seventy five cents going to Father out of the two hundred that I will send by Lt Delk making $182.25 of my own money. If you need any of my money I want you to spend it as my your own. If Father has got more money than he has got any uce for, I would suggest that he spend it in good unimproved land provided he thinks it is a good plan I am willing for him to sell my horses / for it is likely they will both be on the decline before I get home. I do not know what to say for you to do with my money but I would rather have it in good land than any thing else. I want you to write how father is getting along and whether he has sold his beef steers or not and if so what [?] brought me. I want you to send me some clothes but I hardley know what kind to tell you to send me. I want one or two pair of pants two pair of socks one over shirt and a coarse night cap I need two cotten shirts but I expect I can get them here as cheap as you can if not cheaper. if you have an old woosted dress you might make me an over shirt out of it besides one out of lincy, as to other clothing, you can use your own judgement. I must quit for Delk is going to start in one minute
