Dear Sister Laura
            as to day is monday I thought I wood write you a few lines to let you know that I am well, and enjoying life first rate now, and hope that these few lines will find you the same Well Laura how does father little lamb get a long, and how does father get a long this winter, well I hope. well Laura I have not seen any snow sense I left old Vermont. it has been very warm here in Va. this winter, the old boys say. well I must go / watter my horse now.Well Laura I have been fooling around and haint finish this letter yet and it is eavning now. well I have been playing cards this eavening for amusement and I had ought to been writeing to you all this time, and it has got to be so late that I am afear'd that I cant finish this letter well there ant much news to write well I must stop and smoke, that what the matter.
 
Well Laura I have got threw smoking now and am sleepy now and I will will close by wishing you good knight, good after noon Laura it is a very pleasant afternoon here I tell you but the wind blows some. Well I cant write much more for the mail is going out and this must go in it that what the matter so I will close for this time, Wa, Boo 
 
            Well Laura give my love to all who ma in quyer after me tell Bell that I hant forgot her and will write to her soon.
