Camp 1st Vermont Cavalry
Near Stevansburgh, Va.
Feb 8th 1864
Dear Sister
I resieved your letter last eaving and was glad to here from home once more, and was glad to here that you my folks was well as usal, and your letter found me enjoying good helth I was not here when your letter came we was out on a scout and was gone two days and came in last night. the first night we lade in a line of battle and hild our horses by the bit all night, and they put Seymour and Ziba and myself on picket and it was / the first time we was put on picket and it rand like the Devel and you cold not see two feet. I sat on the little horse and I supose you wood not like it but I doo that what the matter. but we had a little battle right here close by our camp when we was gone, but we herd the big guns right smart I tell you.
well tell you Seymour went over to the old Vermont Six to day and see all the boys they was all well. Charles said he wood give 50 dollars if he was in the Cavalry with us O I said they was all well I forget the Johnston boys have got the measles, and that is all the news I have got to write. and I am going over to see the boys next week well Laura the boys act like the Devel so I cant write / any more so good night.
good morning Laura it is as plasant as it is there in the summer I have just been out to a ride and I had a good one I tell you. well I got your picture that you sent me I think a gratedal of them. well Laura tell Hub to write to me and all the rest of the folk give my love to Maggie and tell her to write to me and tell Clara Jones that I wrote the last letter to her but tell her that I will write when I get time O you said old Mage was alive I was glad to here that he was. give my love to Em and Adaline O tell them that I will write to them tell Ella that I wrote the last letter I dont no that she got it well I cant write any more about it now O well I have got to / go and get some watter
to get some supper with
well I have got back and I will try and finish this letter you spoke about Leroy Wardner he is in the invalid Corps I have not seen him well tell father that he has got his hands full to take care of them little lambs I know well I cant think of any more to write so good by write soon
