Dear Farther and Sister
I now seat my self to let you know that I am well and injoying good health at the presant time and I hope these few lines will find you the same. Well Farther I will try and tell you about our Company we did not loose but three men on the raid and we was gone three weeks dont you think we done well, I do any way if you dont, there wont but two boys wounded in our Company and they was right / on three horses, right behind Seymour and my self. lucky boys, that we did not get hit with some of them balls, I tell you. Well Farther and Laura we went within two milds of Richmond and we throwd some shells into the city, and we cold see right into the city that what the matter. well Farther I cant tell you much about the raid but we see sum tuf times and some good times the last two days we traveld we didnot get any thing to eat, and the last two night we didnot get any thing to eat and that was tuf for some of them I tell you. I didnot like it much / I tell you, but my horse had enough to eat and so I sat right on his back and took it calm and smoked now and then, a little, and you know what I mean by a little. I guess you have seen me smoke before now well I will drop that and say no more about it Well Farther and Laura I cant write much more this time, but it is Dam cold here to day, that I no. Well Farther I want you should send me two bottles of whiskey in the box I have wrote to Jole to send me a box and if you will send it I will pay you for it that other was so good I want some more that what the / matter
