Raleigh April the 20th 1865
Co I 129 Ill vol 1 Brigade 3 division 20 A.C.
 
February the 24th 1864            Nashville Tenn we puld stakes and marched to wauhatcha valey and incamped thair march the 10th/64            May the 2 we puld staiks for a campain and I was taken sick and sent back 10 miles from ringold may the 7 and sent to Chattanooga Tenn General field hospital division No 8 and remaind thair till may the 30 when I was sent to the exchang camp 2 Battalion and while thair I went as train guard to Big Shanty June the 20th returnd the 26 I was taken sick and sent to nashvill hospital no 1 august the 5 and was sent back to Chattanooga to the same old camp august the 28th I was sent to hospital no 2 for a ferlough October the 26 and was sent to nashvile whair I received it and started home november the 1st and returnd to nashville november the 22th and was sent to Chattanooga Tenn and put in to the detachment of the 20 A.C. nov the 25 nov the 28 we was orderd to nashville to defend the plaice against reble G. Hood
 
the december the 1 we got thair and dug trenches 2 days and 1 night dec the 4 & 5 considerable skirmishing / the 6 & 7 considrable firing on picket with a litle fight we lost sevril 8 & 9 some litle firing very cold and a big sleat which was very disagreable for sevril days the 15 Thomas went for them and it was a hard fite with a loss to the rebs of 12 hundred prisoners 18 pieces of canon 8 batle flags which we got the 16 the fite gets harder our loss 1000 kild and woundid rebs loss 600 hundred kild & wounded we captured 5000 prisoners 30 canon and sevril batle flags the 17 hood has left our front and skedadeld Thomas after him the 19 we was orderd to move we marched to murphresborough 2 days threw the cold rain the 21 we got on the cars and went 9 miles the other side of huntsville alabama the track being torn up We had to march the rest of the way the 27 we crost the Tenn rivver on transports and run the rebs out of Decatur our cavaldry captured 4 canon then we started after hoods pontoon train but hearing that he had maid a crossing blow we lay at Cortland a fiew days distanc 22 miles blow Decatur Januarey the 4th started back for Chattanooga and got thair the 12th the 13 we was orderd to Dalton Ga to garison the plaice Feb the 27th we was orderd to our / comand we got on transports at nashvile march the 14 distance from Dalto to Nashvile 190 miles we got in to the ohio river the 16 distanc 200 miles from Nash distance from the mouth of the cumberland to Louisville 338 landed at louisville 18 and landed at covingto distanc 651 miles the 20 we started for Parkersburgh Va distance 300 mi from thair to washingto dis 31 mi from thair to elexandra dis 6 mi the 27 we got on the ship Cassandra for Wilmington dis 430 mi to mouth of Cape Fear river dis 30 mi from thair to wilmington april the 3 we started for goldsborough whair Shurman lay dis by w road 100 84 by R.R. the 9 we got thair the 10 we started for Raleigh dis 80 mi and got thair the 13 and encamped for to make peace for Johnson has promist to surrenderd the papers has ben sent to washingto to be sind we left raliegh the 25 and marched out 14 miles and returnd the 28 the 30 we started for washington
 
May the 1st we crost nues rivver and tarr rivver the 3 we past threw wiliams borrough and crost roanoke rivver on pontoons the 4 we crost maharrin rivver the 5 we marched on the richmond and bards town plank road the 6 we crost the South Side RR / at black and white station the 7 we crost the appamatox rivver the 8 we past threw clover hill cole mine and crost the falling watter creak the 9 we encamped in 5 miles of richmond the 11 we marched threw manchester and crost the James rivver and marched in review threw Richmond on main street the 12 we crost the chickamahomaney and pemunka rivvers the 13 we past threw ashland station and crost the south anah rivver the 14 we crost litle rivver and the north annah the 15 we past threw Spottsylvania court hous and encamped on the batle field at chancellorville for the night the 16 we crost the rappohannic at the U.S. ford the 17 crost Slaty run the 18 we past threw branch ville & crost Braud run & bull run & threw fair fax station the 19 we encamped in 4 miles of alexandra distanc from richmond 153 mi.
may the 24th we crost the potomac on the long bridg and past in review threw the city of washington and encamped 4 miles north east of town we left washingto June the 8 for chicago we past threw baltimor and pitsburg distanc from Va to chicago 841 I was paid off June the 20th and started home the 21th dist from chicago to waynesvill 390 miles
