Mrs Samuel R. Rucker,
My Dear Mother, I recd yrs of 22nd last month "by Flag of Truce" which announced the fact that you and family, relatives and neighbors were all doing well, which I assure was truly gratified to hear. But I think it strange, you have never gotten but two "Flag of Truce" letters, 7th of June & 1st of May from me, when I have written regularly to you by Flag of Truce once every three or four weeks. I again write hoping that you may get this letter at least. Continue to write to me regularly, dear Mother, for your letters are a great comfort, consolation, and satisfaction to me. I sometimes have the "Blues" but your letters cheer me up. I wish you cd get my letters as regularly as I do yours. I have been blessed with good health this year. I have the toothache sometimes, my teeth are very annoying to me some of them decaying very fast, and no chance to have anything done to them. We are all well. Pink Edmondson, West Rucker, Weakley, Miles Furguson, and Reese Henderson, though Reese was severely wounded in head in last fight, but is well and back with us now. Col Robison was wounded in the same engagement "Jonesboro" in the hip, will be a cripple hereafter, I am afraid. Tell Sophie Mr B who was wd on the 20 of July near Atlanta, in the back of the neck, slightly, though severely is back with his regt, is looking well as I ever saw him, which was yesterday. we are close to each other. He told me he heard from his wife as late as Sept 3rd, also got a letter from her of date August 10th. It gives me pleasure to be able this time to tell about the boys of the neighborhood, for the benefit of their families. I saw them all the other day, they are all well. Jo Phillips & John, Ed Mathews & Charly Beard, Dick Sandford Sam Mitchel & Billy, Jimmy Black, Beverly Johns Lieut Sam Smith Whist Billy & son, are all well I saw them and talked to them.
