Dear Father I take this oppertunity to drop you a few lines I am still well hoping this will find you the same I was out through the city yesterday I seen Sam Albright and one of Mussers boys they are in Company K 135th Regt they are encamped on capitol Hill guarding a lot of Rebel prisoners there are some Mt Joy boys in the same company I had supper with them I wish you were here to see some of the sights it looks nice to see a train of teems about 5 or six miles long New Regts are still comeing in everything is in an uproar here just now since the Rebels have got into Maryland some are / afraid some are rejoiceing this town is full of Secesh I believe if more that half of the people are Rebels here if a soldier walks along some of the streets some of the Ladies will say look at the Yankey Pups everything is dear here Tobacco sells at 1.25 per pound Milk 10 cts per quart but we get our tobacco cheaper in the Barracks I got a picture taken yesterday which I will send in this letter when you get it please write immediately and let me know whether you got it write soon for I dont think that well not be here long any more there are some going out almost every day my turn will soon come to go I am ready to go any time now I am getting tired laying here I have seen all I want to see in Washington / and am anxious to go somewhere else we are all drilled now and ready to go to fight I must close so no more at present but remain yours &c
