Dear Sister
It is now about the time had thought to be at home but find myself here yet. thy letter of 19th came today did not get it till an hour ago. partly wrote one for thee yesterday but got so tired sitting still laid it aside and took a walk out in the country intending to finish it this morning before the mail left, but this morning while haveing my sholdier dressed saw so many going down to the dock to take the boat for the City concluded to / increase the number by one. doned coat and cap and started. arrived there took 3d Avenue cars for the Central Park promenaded around in it an hour or so in a croud by myself. might have had other company I suppose. at least some ladies females that said—how are you soldier but couldnt see breaking up the pleasant little croud I started with and returned via as above. found thy letter, with one from Jhon and one from Port Royal awaiting me. will proceed to answer thine first. have seated my self before or rather behind a clean sheet, but have got so near the bottom of the second page without a begining, will try the 3d

Am in first rate health, my sholdier had been getting along well since I last wrote till last seventh day it broke out again in a place that had been healed several weeks, and run a good deal for couple of days. seems about the same now as a week ago, except that there is now three holes open instead of two. the above cause detered detered me from starting home last second day morning as I had anticipated. will not get off now till after muster—last of the month, and dont know how soon after that. this hosp is to be cleared out within the next three weeks the patients to be sent to other hospitals and the building / be pulled down to make room for extention to fort—at least so goes report. from look of things there is something in it. will not be likely to start for home till we get settled some where else.

I believe I wrote home that our Regt had been ordered back to Morris Isl it now appears otherwise. they were relieved from duty in Fla. part is now at Beaufort and part on H Head.

From want of fuel will not be able to drive this machine much further—but remain

thy brother Adam
