William H. T. Walker to H. C. Wagner, 4 January 1862
Head Qr 3d Brigade

Camp Walker
Jany 4th 1862

Genl.
I to day organized Col Harris Regt An election was held. Col Harris was unanimously elected Col. Capt E. V. Sharpe was elected Lt Col & Major Lt E. F. Lawson Major. I enclose the necessary papers. The enemy having landed near us in Carolina and a speedy organization having been absolutely necessary I referred the whole matter to Genl Jackson. He ordered that one company of Murrells Battalion and Capt Moore of Mights Regiment (he [?] having only this company not full and another) be ordered put into Harris Regt and an election ordered immediately. In the place of Moore who wanted to join Harris Regiment was substituted Capt Harris Company who wanted to join Might (he Harris being still at the Altamaha not Harris who reported here) was put in his place. / It was the only possible way to form the Regiment for Harris though ordered here from the Altamaha at least ten days ago has not yet arrived. When he does come he can take Moores place. I am thus explicit for I have tried to please all hands and at last find it impossible. Suffice it to say that both Genl Jackson & myself both anxious to make the Brigade efficient have done what we considered the exigencies of the occupation required and I trust it will meet with the approbation of the Commander in Chief. I have made this explanation to stave off any imagined [?] done to show that we have done what we considered for the good of the service.

Yrs Very Respectly
