Dear Mother
            We have got into Old Virgirnia again. We left Pleasant Valley monday at a little past one and marched through Weavertown Knoxville and crossed the Potomac at Berlin
 
            Wheatland Va. Oct 30 1862
            I was oblidged to leave off my letter suddenly yesterday as we received orders to march we marched about 8 miles Monday afternoon we stopped at Lovettsville two nights yesterday afternoon we marched 5 miles / and then put up our tents last night early this morning we took up our march and marched about three miles and camped at our present we are liable to move at any time I tell you there is an immense army on the move as far as I could see before me the road was filled with troops I donot know where we are going to but the Col thinks we are going to Cumberland Gap but I must make my letter short. write often. Please send me out a little cayenne pepper and a few postage stamps tell the neighbors that if / I had time I would be glad to write to them tell them to write as I would be happy to hear from them Gill Reub and Charley are all right excuse this shocking writing I received Martha's kind letter dated the 19th last saturday the 25 The prospects now are that the Government will do a great deal towards crushing this Rebellion before spring give my love to all and accept a large share yourself. Give my respects to Uncle Charles's family from your affectionate son William
