Dear Martha
I now sit down to scribble a few lines. I received Charley and Albert's letters this forenoon. You no doubt have received mine of the 26th in which I stated that my box had come. The mail man brought it up yesterday. It had the apperance of having been opened probably at Washington. My clothing was all there right, but there was no cheese apples or pastry except those cocoanut drops there was three bottles of preserve a bottle of pickles and 4 boxes containing salve C pepper Camphor and Troches (I m / ade me a camphor bag and wear it around my neck) is that to prevent my taking cold. The raisins nuts lozenges flagroot and needlebook were there but there was not a thing to eat except such kind as I have mentioned. The cover showed marks of having been pryed off and it came off easy every article of clothing was there the boots are too large but I can dispose of them Those are very good shirts drawer and socks and a good rubber blanket I had some C pepper and Troches already If you send me a box of eatables just put some hoop iron around it Mr Riddle has got a box on the way out he lives in Bedford. he got his receipt to day. And / Mr Rowell has sent for one these are the two that belong to my Co. We are having a regular snow storm to day I suppose you are having one heavier. Charley stated in his letter that John Peavey was boss in the shop I want to know if he has got that berth. Those preserves were very good. We got a piece of butter about as big as ones eye this morning for breakfast on our piece of bread for the first time since I have been here I suppose this snow will block your skating some. I think you had better start a box of eatables soon and have it packed sound. but I do not think of much more news to write. I will write to Grand Mother this afternoon. My love / to all. I will write Sumner a few lines as he wished me to Alberts letter stated that Sumner was better and that you expect that Eddie has the whooping cough I hope he will not have it and I hope that you all enjoy good health
                                    William
