Dear Sister Martha
I received your kind letter dated 29th this forenoon and those 5 Journals yesterday. I received Charles and Albert's letter wednesday and wrote you the same day and I also wrote Grandma the same day. I wrote you in that letter that I had received my box minus the pies and eatables I hope they done the one that got them no good. My clothing was all there. I wrote Uncle Charles and Estella on saturday and for that reason I did not write you. I received Evie Baker's letter on satur / day Mr J Riddle has got his box of eatables It was sent from his home in Bedford on the 23d the receipt was dated the 24th He got on thursday the 29th. Every thing appeared to be there How is Eddie and Sumner so Sumner was well pleased with his picture. Tell Eddie perhaps I will send him something before long. I will put in a ring which I think will fit Albert if too small give it to Sumner. I am pretty well I think I have the Erysipelas in my legs along on both shins and knees are red and swelled and sore I showed to doctor but did not say what it was I apply Hawkes stimulant to it I first noticed it yesterday or day before / How did Father's uncle appear when he had it. Mrs Pineo a lady whom Thos Gay wrote me about whom he knew when he was in Baltimore was here to see me on saturday Her native residence I believe is in Maine she was looking also for Maine boys. she says she is going up there in June. She gave me an invitation to call on her this week her address is Mary D Pineo 532 W Fayette St She is an elderly dady If you find mistakes in my letters, just write me of them so I can correct them I hope you do not show my scribbling to everybody The snow has nearly gone from here the little boys improved the oppurtunity in sliding. The men that wish to be examined for discharges or to go to their / reg'ts are examined on sundays It is a long time before some get their papers after their names are down There is a Mr Gear here who belongs to our reg't in Co A who is to get his discharge he was hurt in his back from a fall while in camp before the battle. I did not think to mention him before. So Ed Baker has not got his discharge yet. I think I shall be examined next sunday for one although if I should get one it might be three or four weeks before I should get the papers. You need not tell any one that that is my intention. As I have no stamps and I have been two or three times before this at our P.O. for them and they had none I will send this without one My sheet is nearly full so I will close do not show my letters around a great deal I do not stop to punctuate a great deal. My love to all from your brother
