Dear Sister Martha
I received your kind letter of the 1st on thursday the 5th and was happy to hear from home but sorry that Eddie has the whooping cough I send you this recipe which I cut from an almanac it may be good. I sent you a letter thursday which I presume you have received stating that I had the erysipelas in both legs they are some better than they were though I now keep my bed the most of the time so to keep them as quiet as possible I am in hopes to be able to be around in a few days if I keep them quiet / I must have taken cold in some way. I now have my meals brought up to me from the Union Relief and so get a little better than I did at the Government table. Mrs Pineo was here on wednesday she appears to be a kind old lady I should think she was French I expect her here to day again with something good to eat as she promised to come. We have had some stormy weather but it cleared off last night and to day 'tis fine. I wrote to Searg't Edward Emerson in our Co. on thursday Father I believe is acquainted he is the one I tented with and a tiptop fellow. I believe if it had not been for on that march I should / not have been alive now as he was very good to me when I was sick on the march from Pleasant Valley to Falmouth. I have written to Thos Gay. Mrs Pineo and her sister Mrs Lewis have just been here she brought me a nice loaf of cake and piece of cheese Speaking of my box you said the pie and cake were in a large fig box, the box and all were gone. I got the letter paper and envelopes 18 sh'ts of paper and that letter that Albert sent. But I must close as there is not much news to write. from your Brother William
P.S.
Please send me a few stamps as tis rather diffi / cult getting them here without I send down town
My love to all
William
