Dear Mother
I received Martha's kind letter dated 5th this forenoon and was muched pleased to hear from home. I wrote her last saturday. My legs are a little better but I still keep my bed. The doctor has been giving me a kind of a wash and drops to take inwardly. last night he ordered flaxseed poultice again I took one dose of salts yesterday and intend to take another to day. My eyes are affected a little also. he gave me a wash / for them I forgot to state in my last that I wrote to Grand Mother on the 28th I think I told you at the time You spoke of my discharge I think if I am able next sunday I shall try to be examined. But if my name should be taken then for one I should not expect to get the papers in less than three weeks from that time Mr Rowell who has a ball in his hip went up yesterday to be examined and Dr Quick told him he had not been here long enough So Father thinks of going to So Reading I should think it would be a good change Would he move the family if he went. How is it I understand that an act / has passed the State Legislature to bring all the sick and wounded in Hospitals belonging to our state home While I am writing a Commissioner has just come in to get all the Vermonters to carry home He said he has 53 who are to leave to morrow at ten a.m. I would like to get home before you move if you intend to I shouldn't wonder if a N.H. Commisioner should be around this week and if you should move into Mass. it might make some difference in regard to their bringing me home. Tell Eddie that perhaps when I get better I will try and make him a pretty little ring out / of bone as there a great many made here. I do not hardly think 'twill pay to send out a box now, as I can buy a few things to eat once in a while. Tell Eddie billy expects to be home by and by to see him. But I do not know of much news to write. Keep me informed of all the news around home Give my love to all and tell Charley and Albert to write tell Sumner to be a good boy I forgot in my last to put in that receipt but will in this Write soon from your
affectionate son
William.
PS Tell Uncle he must answer my letter that I wrote
