Baltimore Md Mar 25 1863
Dear Sister Martha.
Your see by the heading of this that I am at the Patterson Park hospital. I wrote Mother in my letter of monday that the 9th Army Corps had arrived on their way out west. And yesterday those that belonged to that Corps were sent those that were able to this place And I intend to try all I can to obtain my discharge here, and I have some hopes that I will succeed. We started from McKims yesterday afternoon. Among the first that I saw here was Mr Cox of the N.H. Battery. He left the battery right after the battle of Antietam sick and has had three fevers he says. I have received no letter from home since a week ago last sunday. perhaps you wrote one and it has miscarried I received one yesterday / from Father he said he had got a house at Malden with 8 rooms 4 miles out and a large garden. He said he had just written home. I hope he will do well there. I wrote Mother on monday This is a wet morning last night it rained quite hard. This place is a convalescent hospital They send the men here now instead of sending them to Alexandria as formerly. I did not send you any American monday as the boy I told to bring me one did not do so. How is Aunt Statira and her boy? And Evie Baker. Tell them they both must write when they get able. Tell Charley to answer my letter that I wrote him. And Albert must write tell Sumner and Eddie to be good boys. But I have not much news to write I will write again soon, you must write often. But I must close this, and answer Fathers. My love to all. Direct your letters to the above Hospital, Ward 16. from your affect' brother William.
