Dear Father
I received your kind and welcome letter yesterday, and was happy to hear from you. You see by the heading of this that I have been removed from my former place I was sent here yesterday. I have some news for you. The 9th Army Corps have arrived in the bay on their way (it is said) out west to reinforce Gen Rozecrans. I do not know whether they have all left yet or not But some of our boys were out on a pass monday and one of them went over to locust point and said the trains were taking them off fast. He said the boys were looking firstrate and well clothed and shod. My reg't I suppose you know belongs to this Corps. All those at McKim's / that belonged to this corps were sent those that were able to this place. And intend to try all I can here to obtain my discharge and I am in hopes that I will succeed Among the first that I saw at this place was Mr Cox of the N.H. Battery he left it right after the battle of Antietam. He has had three fevers he says. I have just written to Martha. I have received no letter from home since a week ago last sunday. This is a wet morning it rained quite hard last night. I hope you will do well where you now are. My ancles are still pretty lame and the cord to my left heel I am in hopes I will get my discharge here. But I have not much more news to write. Please direct your letters to the afore named Hospital Ward 16. Write soon Give my respects to all the folks. Dont fail to write soon. You spoke of sending me money if I needed it. I am not in need of any now as I have over $4.00 with me but I must close from your affect' son
