John L. Fish to William W. Fish, 22 July 1862
July 22nd/62
Camp opposite Fredericksburg
Dear Brother William
I will now answer yours of the 9th glad to hear that you were all enjoying good health. glad to hear that you were enjoying good health. Did you fire our old gun on the 4th. as I have not been able to write lately I suppose Ed Baker wrote that I was not very smart. The new troops will have to be raised soon or the war will not be closed right away. they should have kept on recruiting since last winter then the war might have been closed before this time if had been managed right. I got that that ring that you sent. I do know as I can write anything the war news you can see as the papers tell hope will all come out right before long. I suppose there is great excitement in Manchester. I must close.
My Love to you all
From Your Brother
