Camp near Warrenton Va
Dear Sister
We left camp near Sharpsburg on the 1st of Nov and arrived at this place on the 9th we did not march every day, but marched one or two and then laid by the next. On our march we had a pretty good snow storm it made some of us feel as though we would like to be in some house behind the stove, such as you have in old Hartleton, however the snow disappeared the next day and the weather became favorable again for marching The weather at present is such / that soldiers can very easily stand it without having winter-quarters I was in hopes that as we had Lee's army nearby surrounded that perhaps they might be captured or totally demolished and then we could march forward and take Richmond but as things have happened through the slowness of Gen McClellan (the rebels gone to Richmond and winter near at hand when the rains will mud the roads and prevent our moving) there is no doubt but that we will get winter-quarters but how soon I cannot tell I suppose you have heard that Gen Burnsides has superseded Gen McClellan I am / in hopes that things will move somewhat brisker than they have heretofore. The boys are well those that are here when we left Sharpsburg George Huff and Sterger Charles were left behind, as they did not feel well. I do not know wether they are still there or not. some say they are at Frederick. If you have not sent those boots and things send them as quick as you [paper torn away] / as you can because it will be getting muddy before long and then I will need them the worst the mittens would also come very handy just now as the mornings get cold holding the gun Nothing more at present please write as soon as you get this Direct to Washington D.C.
Your Brother
