William H. Weirick to Mary A. Weirick, 17 August 1862
Camp Curtin
Harrisburg Aug 17th/62

Dear Sister
I received your box with letter, pears, & cakes and am very much obliged to you for them. I am glad to know that you are well I am well and so are the rest of the Hartleton boys with the exception of Joseph [smudge] he had been pretty sick for a day or so but is now pretty near well There are a great many soldiers leaving for the south. We intend to leave tomorrow but whither we are to / go we do not exactly know but we will either go to Washington or Annapolis. It is very dusty here at present it would be much more pleasant if it would rain and settle this dust It was rumored that there had been some of the soldiers poisoned it was supposed the poison was put in the pies cakes &c which the people brought to camp but the physicians attribute it to the liquor which they drank and eating green fruit on top of it

I suppose if Whitmer gave you his note that it will be safe enough / it must be written with interest from date if it is not written in this way it must be in order that you can collect the interest

They are getting up a remonstrance against this bounty matter they promised us fifty dollars and when they got us here they put us off with $25 and now we are going to try and get the $50 Wm Wilson can tell you all about affairs in camp therefore I'll not write any more at present. Show this to know one for it was written in a / hurry. Once I get to the place where we intend to go I'll try and write you a good letter

Letters from the army are generally shown to different persons therefore

I'll write as soon as we reach our reach our destination

Your Brother
