Miss M. A. Weirick

Dear Sister.
I received yours of the 12th and was glad to hear from you, but was sorry to hear that Mother was not well; I hope that she may soon return to her wonted health and so remain that her old days may be passed with health and enjoyment. I think she has been unusually sick this last winter, perhaps trouble on the part of my welfare has something to do with it, if so I hope that she may no more trouble herself as to the comfort & safety of me; it is true that at times I am exposed to extra dangers (that is at the time of battle) but these do not present themselves very often, and when they do I have my chance with others; so upon the whole I am nearly as safe here as at home. My health is good I weigh 142½ lbs now & when I left home I only weighed 120 lbs, so that I have gained 22½ since I left home

You stated in your letter that Mr Geddes wrote to me / I am sorry to say that I did not receive his letter as I should like to have heard from him. The health of the Regt is good, & that of the whole army of the Potomac as far as I know. I think that this army is in better condition now than ever it has been, & when it makes a forward movement I think it will be successful; for the men have full confidence in their leader (Hooker) & he is almost certain that he shall drive the rebels before him. I have this opinion of the war, that if things are pushed right it will be ended in less than 4 months. I received a letter from Aunt Lizzie she & her husband are well.

This morning we received the box in good condition. We are very much obliged to you folks for your liberality

Hartleton boys all well & in good spirits

Yours &c
W. H. Weirick
