May 18th 1865.

Dear Sister:
Yours of the 14th containing ten dollars came duly to hand. was pleased to hear from you. Have not much of importance to communicate this time. Rebellion is at an end! the troops are on their homeward march. Jeff. Davis is caught, as also a good many of his cohorts. All this things are indicative of a speedy settlement of our national difficulties, with the restoration of peace, and the resumption of prosperity.

Mary, if we don't get paid before long, will you furnish me with money from time to time as I may need it? You can send me ten dollars at a time say every two weeks; that will be $5.00 per w'k. You need not be / afraid that you will not get it again. I will certainly return it. I have learned that my salary per month is $145.00, so you see when it does come, it will amount to more than I have spent.            Write

Your brother
W. H. Weirick

P.S. I will get my photograph in uniform before I leave the Army. By sending me money as above indicated I will not have a chance to spend so much, and hence can save more. The more money I have here, the more I spend. Mother need not trouble herself so much as to my welfare. I fare as well here, nearly, as if I were at home: the only difference is I am not with you. I have such books as I need, and read thirty & forty pages every day, save Sunday, fully as much as I would, were I at home. Should we be discharged before "Medical lectures" open I will be prepared, if I keep my health, to attend them.
