Camp at Harrisons Landing

June the 17th 1862
Dear Friend it is with pleasure that I now seat myself to write a few lines to you to day. I received your letter a few days ago & was very glad to hear from you once more. We had some hard fighting a few days ago & some of the bend boys fell in defence of their country John Kinsler & Billie Fleming were both killed & Robert Davis was wounded in the hand, but I suppose you have heard all about the fight ere this time. We are still camped on the bank of the James River at Harrisons Landing I cant tell how long we will stay here.

I have not much to write this time the bend boys are all well at present I seen Jim hues to day & Henry ox they belong to the fourth Penna. Cavalry & are camped about one mile from here I told George about his boy being sick & he has been very uneasy about him ever since it is very warm down here but we are camped in the / woods & have good watter to use & not much to do so that we can stand it Well I must close for this time
