Andrew Jackson Holbrook
Andrew Jackson Holbrook was born around 1833 in Boston, Massachusetts, to Daniel and Malinda Holbrook. His father was a broker who owned $20,000 of real estate by 1850. The family lived in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and he married Susan S. Walker on October 19, 1854. Their daughter Tina was born around 1867. They lived in Somerville, Massachusetts, and he worked as a clerk. By 1860, he owned $2,000 of real estate.
 
In September 1862, he received a commission as a 2nd lieutenant in Company E of the 5th Massachusetts Infantry. Army officials transferred him to the Signal Corps in 1863. He resigned on August 19, 1864.
 
He settled in Charleston, Massachusetts, after leaving the army. He moved to Oswegatchie, New York, in the late 1860s, and he worked as an auditor for a railroad company there. By 1890, he was living in Boston. He applied for a federal pension in April 1890 and eventually received one. By 1900, he was working as a bookkeeper. He died of “old age” in Boston on January 2, 1910.
