Friend Gillet
I now write to you to inform you that I have sent $50.00 to you by Express to Canandaigua. I did not pay the expressage as there is no express agent here and you will have to pay it and charge to me. I have been with the regiment about two weeks. I am not well yet but had to either goe in the invalid Corps. Charles was wounded here last week, though not verry bad I hope. this is rather a tough place we are exposed to the fire from the gun boats and mortar batteries of the rebils all the time please write and let me know if you get the money. no more at present yours F Thompson/direct to Co K 148 reg NYV Fort Monroe 2 Brig 2 Division 18 Army Corps
