Dear Father:
"Here we are" all right as far as my short sight can determine. I had a good time in Caton and everywhere that I stopped except along the Canandaigua Branch of the Erie. That was provoking. I was about 10 hours coming from Can. to Elmira but as good luck would have it I did not have to wait in Elmira long. I met Uncle J. on Main St. Corning as he was coming after me. Had a visit while in Caton at Mr Moniers. Saw Naboth Babcock Saturday Uncle John W. took me / down on the river. Saw Uncle Aa. & Uncle Sylvester. Did not see Cous. Jo. as he had gone to Corning. Took dinner at Uncle Aarons. Made a call at Uncle Georges on our way up. Aunt Abigail looks very poorly indeed. I fear that you will never see her at our house. She was about the house. All the rest of the family were seemingly in good health (& making gloves & mittens) Saw Albert for a few moments also Grant for the first time. One of his little boys is very sick, was thought to be on the gain. Made a call at Uncle A.B.B. on our way. Uncle B. was not there was in Mich. I heard nothing said about it but suppose that he will if as mean as I think him to be call on his relatives. / Hattie & George Smith came up to Uncle John's in the evening. Uncle J. Gillet Aunt Betsey and Cousins Ira G. & Rhoda S. were there also. Had a good evenings visit. Went that night over to Uncle Spicers. Stayed with him 'til the next day M. He took me to Uncle J. Gillets. Uncle J.W. & Aunt P. came over. We stayed until 3.30 P.M. Then Uncle J.G. took Ira & myself down to Cousins William & Mary Beers. Stayed until 4.45 A.M. when Uncle J took me to the cars and I soon was off for Philada. Reached Philada. about 5 P.M. Went to Mrs Bs. to wait for the 12 P.M. train. Could not get away that night because they wouldn't let me. Stayed until the 5 P.M. train yesterday. Had a good time generally. Reached Schencks Station about 6 P.M. found a chance for a ride to the Hosp. and found my companions glad to see me back & looking so well. Sent in my documents last night and all proved satisfactory. I have not seen Dr. B. yet. He will be in in the course of an hour to make his A.M. round. Will send this without writing of other matters. Will write again soon.
Hoping that this may find you all on the gain if not well. I am your ever
Grateful & Affectionate Son
Chas. A. Gillet
