Russell F. Wright to Euphemia O. Gillett, 21 December 1862
Fort Norfolk Virginia
Sunday Dec 21st/62

Friend Euphemia,
Though I have received no answer to my last letter, I assume the liberty of writing again. I have recently learned that your health is much poorer than I was aware of. I am very sorry, and somewhat surprised to receive such intelligence, for I have been credulous enough to believe that you were fast recovering from your illness. I hope you donot dispond under your misfortune, though the heavy hand of affliction seems at present to be laid upon you, you may soon be Providently restored to vigorous health. You are quite excusable for not answering my letter, I cannot reasonably expect you to answer my letters, while your health scarcely admits of your replying to those written by your brother. I have received and read your letters with pleasure / but I take too deep an intrest in your welfare to wish you to write while it proves an injury to your health, but when your health shall have improved enough to allow you to write, a word or line from you, will ever be received with true gratitude. Your brother is in good health and spirits, also the other soldiers from Hopewell, notwithstanding the most of them are in the guard house today

To know my good wishes, read the 2nd verse of the 3rd epistle of John. Allow me to subscribe myself sincerely and truly your friend
Russell. F. Wright
