Thomas L. Hatton to Catharine A. Hatton, 27 September 1861
Camp Graham Sept 27/61

Dear Kate,
I write these few extra lines to enquire the reason that I have not heard from you before this time I have sent you two letters and have not received any word from you I sent to the care of Kelly a letter containing Seventeen dollars and a half and requested you to write to me immediately if you received it and I feel anxious to hear whether you did or not. I sent you one the next morning to the same effect and requesting you to let me know if you still receive any money from the relief committee and if you have heard any thing from the Navy Agents office about Hughey's money let me know how you are getting along for the only thing that I have / to worry me is about yourself and the children take good care of yourself and them and do as well as you can and I will do as well as possible for you. I have had a great deal of hard duty to perform this last four days between Guard and Pickett duty I have had hardly any sleep at all and may have to go out again to night or tomorrow morning things are pretty lively about here at present but from the papers that I see from Philadelphia they are a great deal more frightened than we are that are so close to the enemy we may change our camp soon but direct your letters to me the same as before and it will come right if it is directed plainly. One of our men was killed out on duty the other night it was through his own recklesness if he had used any caution at all he would not have been killed

Yours Affectionately
Tom /
