Camp on Queens farm
Dec 19/61

Dear Kate. I received your letter to day and am very sorry to hear that the children are not in good health and also that you have had twenty five cents a week taken from you by the relief committee I hope that this letter will find the family in better health. tell Ally that he guessed right about the cover being very thin but if I do not sleep as warm as you do I sleep as sound I received the things that you sent down the shirt I wanted very bad you need not send any more white handkerchiefs to me they get dirty so quick I will try to get along with what I have got. I dont receive any papers and dont care for any except the Sunday dispatch or Mercury received a letter / this afternoon from Oscar Hating that Mr Herring was dead and would be buried on Saturday morning I expect that will bust the consern up. I was over to see John McCann at his camp on last Monday the regiment that he belongs to is encamped on Meridian hill back of the ground that we have division drill on we were over there last Monday and I got permission to go over for a few minutes to see him he was on guard at the time and I did not have / much chance to talk to him for you can not talk to a Sentinel on post. he looks like an old man walking up and down with his sword at a shoulder because he walks bent about half over. Bill Carpenter is well and sends his respects you did not let me know if you had any word from Hugh. let me know in your next letter if you have a small package to send down you can send it to the office in 8th street below Walnut 219. if you send anything down I would like to have a small pocket comb and a fine tooth comb tell your brother Al that he might send a letter to Pud and me and let us know what is going on.       Yours  Tom
