Mary Elizabeth Briggs
Mary Elizabeth Briggs (maiden name: Talcott) was born around 1827 in Lanesborough, Massachusetts, to Nehemiah and Judith Talcott. She married Henry Shaw Briggs on August 6, 1849, and they had at least four children: George, born around 1850; Mary, born around 1853; Harry, born around 1856; and Cornelia, born around 1859. They lived in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and her husband worked as a lawyer. A local writer described her as a "brilliant and beautiful society woman." In the early 1880s, she began suffering from a "distressing disease," and she died of “inanition” in Pittsfield on April 17, 1883.
