My Dear Wife
I am wounded in my right arm, and am a prisoner, at a hotel in Corinth. I was in the great fight from Sunday morning till Monday PM without getting injured; tho the bullets whistled around me thick as hail. I lost one man (J Kukker) killed, and had 11 wounded. On Tuesday the 77th was attacked by the Texas Rangers and another battalion, when I got a revolver shot from a Ranger, which broke my right arm just below the shoulder. It was dressed at Gen. Hardee's Head Quarters, by Dr Pembaugh, a Union Surgeon. Dr. Lawrence, Gen. H's Med. Dr. has treated me very kindly. Dr. Young, of Ind., is attending me now. I am doing well, and very well treated. Gens Breckinridge, Ruggles and Hardee have all called to see me. They all treat me very kindly. The Southern ladies are like Good Samaritans—they have treated me like sisters would. Don't be alarmed about me. I will be fit for duty I hope before long. If I am exchanged soon, I will come home to get well.
As ever your
