Andrew W. McCormick to Alice J. McCormick, 25 September 1863
Office Provost Marshal General,
Little Rock, Ark., Sept 25, 1863.

My very dear Wife
I am quartered eight miles from this city, on the Pine Bluff Road, where my company is guarding a steam saw mill.

I came in this afternoon to get letters, and some other things, but no mail has arrived. I learn a mail is going so I drop you a note.

I am in good health—first rate in fact. I am having a very good time, considering my absence from my dear ones at home. Things still look bright for peace before long.

Give my regards to all my friends. It is now about five o'clock, and I must get to camp before night, so I must close. Imagine all I could have have written you, dear love, if I had time. I love you so dearly I regret to write you such a short letter. I will write again soon. I got no letter from you since the 3d.

Tell Augusta I am looking for that letter.

Give the children lots of kisses for Pa.

As ever, dearest,
Your devoted husband
A.W. McCormick.

Capt McN. is well. Also my Lieuts.

The boys generally are well.
