Camden, Ark, Apl 17, 1864.
My very dear Wife
I enclose you a line, which I wish published in the Register—but if it is out when you get it, send to the Commercial, at once. As the rebels have been behind us for some time, and no mails going, the friends of the 77th will be glad to see news from it. It seems an age, love, since I got a letter from you. I am still acting Major, but cannot hear, of course, whether I am promoted.
My kind regards to friends, and much love to you and my darling chil- / dren. How I would like to see you. I am very well. so are all the Marietta boys.
Forward the enclosed to Mrs S. Direct to me "77th O.V. 2d Brig. 3d Div. 7th Army Corps, Camden, Ark."
As ever, dearest, yours.
Mac.
