Andrew W. McCormick to Alice J. McCormick, 1 September 1864
Military Prison, Tyler Texas,
September 1st, 1864.

My very dear Wife
I write you again, hoping the military authorities will favor me by passing through the lines. I am very well indeed, as are also Capt. McKitrick and Lieuts. Flemming, Fulton, Smith, McIntire and Marlow—the only 77th Officers here.

Since the Regt arrived here, we have lost seventeen by death. Of these M. Ward, Jas W. Morris, A Grim, Jacob Decker, John Connor, H H Balding, L. Davis, Jacob K Long, J W Hilton, Simon West, Edwd. Richardson, H. F. Davis, and James Balderson have died since the 9th of July, when the last prisoners were exchanged.

John Miller and IsaacWard of B, M Hall of D, B Pierson of E, Howard Scott of G, Rufus Hanlen of I, and John and George Miller of K are sick. Balance of 77th all well. We are out of money and very scantily clothed, so you may know it is important that we be exchanged—of which we now have a little hope. Capt McNaughton wrote me July 26 that you and the children were well, which gave me great happiness. Write me often. I enclose stamp. Direct to
