Mary E. Ambler to Edwin Benedict, 10 June 1863
Taunton June 10th 1863

My Dear Eddy
As I have just got in from a very plesant excursion I thought I would tell you about itt but this pen and paper must do the talking It has been very warm today I have washed and ironed been out on the pond sailing with Charles Jennings Jane and Deal and we had a very nice time although but a few of us there it was cool enough on the pond to be plesant and we enjoyed it very much I dont suppose that you think so much of having a ride on the water as I do but I suppose that you will soon take quite a long ride I hope you will but I dread it for you but I trust that there no accident will occur and hope that we will soon meet again

Thursday Morning and Oh dear how warm it is how do you ever stand the heat down there it is warm and dry here it seems as if every thing would dry up for the want of rain we have had showers all around us but not a drop has been here in nearly 2 weeks I went to Church Sunday saw Sam Amblers wife she says that she dont know how to wait for Sam to come she says that she bets that she will be glad when Sam gets home I shall be glad when Edwin comes shant you Deal had a letter from Oscar I think by what he wrote that he feels his keeping some I think he will be rather a dangerous Sojer to contend with when he gets home the girls will have to be a kind of careless about then what do you say how do you feel I have begun to clean the house I have got the garret cleaned 2 rooms ready to white wash so I begin to think that we shall live there some time nothing do I long so much for / as I do the time when we shall be quietly keeping house in our own loved home with loved and loving friends around us that we may again enjoy the society of each other I have just been writing to Oscar but I have have not much news to write Oscar said that he was looking for you up there I hope you will have a good visit Jerusha has been here and I beleive that her tounge is hung in the middle and both ends constantly playing she says that she just as much beleives that you will be home the 8 of July as she beleives that she knows me she says that she dont beleive that Ed will tell every thing that he knows as quick as he finds it out I hope not if she has got to know it dont you but I must close as I want to go to the St after the mail Hattie is well and grows so fast that you will hardly know her
